There are 11 different types of Corallorhiza orchids throughout North America, Europe and Asia. All of them are terrestrial forest orchids. This particular Coralroot flower grows at 8500 feet in the aspen & pine forest north of Flagstaff, Arizona. They blend in with the reddish brown landscape of the pine bark. They’re rare and difficult to spot, but once you do, it seems they’re everywhere.
Traditionally this plant has been used in Native American medicine as a remedy for colds, pneumonia and skin irritation.
