My mother has the proverbial green thumb; she can get any plant to grow. She even has a huge tropical Mandevilla vine blooming in the high desert of northern Arizona. The soil is rocky and dry, so she planted the Mandevilla in a big pot with a tall trellis. In a year the vine grew up the trellis and climbed two stories up to her deck!
If you’re attracted to the Mandevilla flower, you may recently have felt a twinge of fear at the prospect of losing something. It’s natural to feel attachment to the way things are—to people, places, or things that we love. Yet the nature of life is that things are constantly changing, and thus you may have recently felt anguish or worry about losing something or someone you love. The more you cling, the less empowered you feel.
Being drawn to Mandevilla can also indicate impatience or rushing, which can lead to physical tension and discomfort.
Mandevilla helps us feel secure in the love that we possess inside us, rather than needing something from the outside to feel complete and whole. This leads to peacefulness, contentment, and the liberation of creative energy. When we’re not holding on too tightly to something or someone, we have more energy at our disposal to appreciate the unfathomable rightness of how things actually are.
Mandevilla flower elixir helps us to be profoundly at peace with the way things are, without wanting to change them or wishing for another outcome. It opens us up to being more present with what is, dissolving attachment and fear of loss.
Mandevilla (Mandevilla sendari) blooms in pink, red, white, and yellow varieties and loves warmer climates. The flowers on the vine start out as oversize pink buds that are tightly curled into a spiral pattern. Native to Central and South America, this showy flower vine can be trained to grow up a trellis or garden wall by using twist ties to guide the vines where you want them to grow, either horizontally or vertically. One species of Mandevilla from Chile, Mandevilla laxa, even smells like gardenias!
Not an edible flower, Mandevilla is a part of the dogbane family; all members of this family are toxic to people and animals. Mandevilla itself is not as poisonous as other flowers in its family, such as oleander and periwinkle, but if ingested, it does cause indigestion. Mandevillas are considered a low-maintenance vine, and pruning from time to time makes them flourish.
"I purchased Mandevilla because of attachment and abandonment trauma from my childhood that I still carry. I have found so far that using it is bringing to the surface buried rage for release, and more clarity around my inner “yes” and “no”’s ; I think this elixir I will use regularly for a while, it is very helpful to my growth! Also noticing many momonets of peaceful centered relaxation and increased self confidence and self trust." —Robyn
"Recently I had some old fears from past trauma come up around fear of abandonment and remembered that I have this on hand. I have already done a lot of work on this and this elixir has helped that along even more. I am able to see and feel the old feelings and recognize that while it is up in my system, it does not have to take me down. I am holding the space of allowance for the feelings and the self-care required for truly healing them. I am so grateful for the soft, deep, and beautiful support of Mandevilla." —Sarah
"Yesterday my best friend of two years abandoned me. I was feeling so disheartened and was looking for help. I searched here for the flower remedy for rejection and mandevilla came up. Fortunately I have many of the remedies in my cabinet and this was one of them. I have taken it several times today and now feel a bit of relief from the loneliness, plus I took steps to protect myself in case she decided to return. I believe that mandevilla helped me face my emotions." —Julie
"I felt instinctively drawn to Mandevilla: when the pain of betrayal came up, a relationship I thought I had, until someone came along and I was just chucked aside. This elixir helps to soothe and feel the hurt of ‘unplugness’ and helps me to feel more whole to care for me. I use this together with Infinite Love and Fierce Compassion, but on its own, it helps me first to feel the potency of my pains dissolving." —Lay
