We discovered this sweet flower during a wildflower trail hikes in the Grand Tetons on the border of Idaho and Wyoming.
It’s an funny little flower, because it looks like it’s hiding something: the flower hangs upside down like a hat - you have to get into very awkward positions to be able to see inside of it! The outside of the flower is a soft indigo color and inside is a vibrant, rich purple with bright yellow stamen.
Native to the Rocky Mountains, this wildflower looks like a fuzzy velvet indigo + purple-colored upside down hat.
Also known as Hairy Clematis (not the most endearing name ... and why we chose Sugarbowl Clematis from the common name choices!), these bell-shaped flowers are drought-resistant and bloom in spring + summer.
It belongs to the buttercup family, and can be found in the United States from Nebraska to Washington.
If you are attracted to Sugarbowl Clematis, there may be a part or parts of yourself you are afraid to look at. Take a moment to see if any of these questions resonate:
The BOLDEST version of myself: what scares me about that?
What aspects of myself am I afraid of? What aspects am I afraid to show the world? What would I consider to be the deepest darkest parts of myself?
What things am I hesitant to say? When does self-expression create tension?
When am I not authentic, either with myself of others? When do I put on a mask?
When do I veil my true feelings or intentions? When have I had a hidden agenda?
Sugarbowl Clematis cuts through any layers of lack of clarity or authenticity, with ourselves or with others. It helps us be fearless with all parts of ourselves, especially those aspects that we are afraid of or subconsciously fear will take over and get us into trouble.
Sugarbowl brings any of these fears out into the open to be transformed by the light of clarity. It helps us cut through any veils of deception - whether conscious or subconscious, both within ourselves and others.
Truth is freedom, and this flower elixir helps us see and accept the truth. Things that we may have perceived as ‘dark’ no longer have a charge, as we are no longer ignoring or hiding them from ourselves.
Sugarbowl helps us see what’s real. It helps us see through our own hidden agendas — no matter how subtle — and see through those of others as well.
Magnifies:Self-transparency; mindful curiosity; clear-seeing
Dissolves: Secrecy; hiding; fear of darkness
Illuminate your greatest purpose through self-healing. Unveil your sacred offering & clarify your expression. Attract community & magnify your powerful presence.
Along with being one of the flowers featured in the Divine Truth Collection, Sugarbowl Clematis is also available as a single elixir.
Because each flower has its own unique specialty, single flower elixirs can target very specific patterns. The effects of single flower elixirs are often more subtle, yet they go deeper, hitting the bullseye. While it may take longer to discern the shifts taking place, the effects can be profound.
