Imagine arriving at a party, making your way to the snack table and biting into a salty, savory, gluten-free, goat-cheese-loaded squash blossom.
Heavenly, right?! This recipe is even infused with kombucha ~ choose your favorite kind to give it your personal flavor twist! That combined with the melted goat cheese makes this the ultimate comfort food.
The typical growing season for Squash Blossoms is May to September. If you grow your own zucchini, you’ll want to pick the male flowers that are farthest away from the center of the plant. The males will not grow into squashes, whereas the female ones tucked up in the center will! If you don’t have them in your garden, you can find them at a farmers market or an organic market.
Squash blossoms are super delicate, so it’s best to use them within 24 hours of getting them!
Ingredients: 12 Zucchini Squash Blossoms, stamen removed Savory Goat Cheese Filling: 8 ounces goat cheese
Juice from ½ lemon
3 tablespoons minced blend of cilantro, chives and garlic
¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
Gluten Free Bubble Batter: ½ cup white rice flour
½ cup kombucha
2 teaspoons salt + Maple syrup
For frying: 2 cups vegetable oil
Gently remove the stamen from the center of each blossom and carefully set blossoms aside while you prepare the cheese and batter.
For the Savory Goat Cheese filling, mix together all of the ingredients and scoop it into a Ziploc bag. When you’re ready to fill, simply snip the corner of the bag so that you can easily squeeze the cheese mixture into the center of each Squash blossom!
For the Gluten-Free Bubbly Batter, mix together all of the ingredients and place the batter in a separate, shallow bowl.
Fill the squash blossoms with the goat cheese mixture and gently twist the flower shut. Once all blossoms are filled, dip each one into the batter, fully coating.
Heat up the vegetable oil in a frying pan or wok, and place the battered Blossoms in the pan. Fry for about 2 minutes - carefully flipthe blossom over and repeat.
When they are ready, the batter will be a beautiful golden color. Remove the battered flowers from the oil with a slotted spoon, and place them on a plate with a paper towel to absorb all of the excess oil. For a sweet little touch, drizzle some maple syrup on top + your favorite flower elixir, and ENJOY!
