Fun fact: I grew up in the midwest and my grandparents had a small apple orchard. In the summer to late fall, I remember picking apples. My grandmother would make the most divine applesauce, which she served up hot and pink in color. She would freeze it and I would eat it -- heated up -- all winter long.
Another cold weather favorite of mine was hot apple cider. I loved to put a whole stick of cinnamon in the mug and try to drink out of it like a straw. Cinnamon is one of the most comforting spices for that reason.
If you -- like me -- just long for an apple cider one day this fall, here's a convenient single serving recipe!
8 oz apple cider
1 tsp fresh grated ginger
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp butter or vegan butter, softened
½ tsp Vietnamese Cinnamon
2 whole star anise
Pinch ground cardamom
Sprinkle of ground allspice
Sprinkle of ground nutmeg
5 drops favorite LOTUSWEI Flower Elixir
Optional: 1 oz bourbon
In a small saucepan over medium low heat, combine apple cider, ginger, vanilla, cinnamon, star anise, cardamom, allspice, and nutmeg and gently simmer until warm. Pour apple cider into a mug and add 1 teaspoon vegan butter, stirring until melted. Add 5 drops of LOTUSWEI Elixir + enjoy ~ my favorite is Joy Juice because it makes you laugh, and for extra satisfaction, try drinking through a cinnamon stick. :)
If you want to spike the cider, add 1oz bourbon.
Happy thoughts + flower petals,
